Artist Bio

REBECCA KOERTING STUDIO
Perth based, Australian Abstract Artist.
Rebecca Koerting is an abstract artist based in Perth, Western Australia. Inspired by her childhood love and connection with the natural world, Rebecca paints modern abstractions of hidden worlds, full of texture and colour.

Drawing inspiration from nature, Rebecca Koerting's abstract artworks capture the energy and form of the hidden Australian coral reefs. The organic and free flowing shapes and colour combinations work together to build a captivating abstraction of an immersed world.

The shapes and colours in her artworks compose a story belonging to the reefs and their structure. The artworks characterise the fluid shapes and the imperfect way that reefs grow to become beautiful artforms in themselves.

Rebecca’s pieces are interpretations of natural curves and vibrant colours of some of Australia’s most unique corals. The seducing hues draw you into the story of the artwork – a subtle reminder of the beauty that lies beneath the ocean’s surface – the amazing colours that exist under all of the oceans blue.

Growing up in a small coastal town, Rebecca was was no stranger to the salty air and freshness of the Australian ocean. Many of her days as a child were spent on the sandy shores of the local beaches, splashing in the sea. Rebecca's paintings are strongly influenced by this childhood. She was forever daydreaming about different worlds, especially worlds beneath the ocean’s surface. 'I loved seeing this world in colour and really feeling these colours within my soul'.

The random, unpredictable swirls of coral shapes and hues drift through her inner creative thoughts and onto canvas – they capture what little worlds and pockets of the ocean might look like. The abstract fluidity of the coral and water is depicted through the curves in the acrylic and layers of colour build the worlds that I imagine. The organic shapes of the coral envelope and caress each other, coalescing harmoniously to create a magical structure of reef.
