Artist Bio

Hello! welcome to my Bluethumb profile. My name is Rebecca Austin I graduated from the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia in 2016, majoring in printmaking and drawing. During my degree I studied plein-air painting, life-drawing, printmaking such as etching and collographs, jewelery-making and small object sculpture as well Australian art history and fashion. Studying art influenced me to think more visually and to criticise what I see around me.
I have always been drawn to creative expression as a way to communicate and express my ideas and emotions. Most of my work comes from impressions I receive that effect me on an emotional level that I am otherwise unable to express. I am influenced by everything around me from landscapes and nature to people and animals as well as deitites and historical figures. Occasionally I am influenced by news stories that leave an emotional impression on me. I am interested in capturing a certain energy that has made an impression on me.
My influences include Kiki Smith, Louise Bourgeious, Francisco Clemente and Van gogh.
