Artwork Description

Utilising the ink techniques of cross hatching, line work, and stippling ‘Betta Dream’ captures a betta fish, also known as ‘Siamese fighting fish’. They’re usually forced to live in minuscule cups, small bowls, and even flower vases. Betta fish can experience frustration and depression. While most of them can be happy in a tank alone, their environment still needs plenty of enrichment, such as caves, plants, and room to explore.
Does this all sound familiar or similar to how we all felt during Covid Lockdown? Desperate to be stimulated past our 4 walls (or lga) that confined us, even though we were so grateful to be safe.
This piece resembles growth, the betta fish has grown extra ethereal fins, as though resembling a flowing veil. We have all grown something extra and stronger and have been able to appreciate our greater surroundings; water & loved ones with a lot more appreciation.

Original Artwork: this piece took over 8 weeks to complete, using Pigma Micron Archival Inks and Winsor & Newton watercolours on white Fabriano Artistico Smooth Paper.

Rebekah Ziola (Bekymaree), is known for creating captivating and innovative art. Insanely passionate about art and design, Rebekah completed her Bachelor of Science in Design on full scholarship at The Ohio State University in 2007. Rebekah Ziola captures her subjects in "realistic" pencil, ink and watercolour – that are all too mesmerising, hypnotic and spellbinding. Her distinct custom portraits, and alternate subjects are original and iconic. Adding her special taste in every image, Bek produces realistic sketches and paintings in varied scales that have also been recognised internationally:

"Look at this gorgeous drawing Bekymaree is working on of our chicken, how precious"
Whitney Eve Port

"Your work is beautiful"
Kerrie Hess

She transforms her ideas into beautiful art pieces, which, at a first glance might look like richly-coloured paintings or photographs, but on closer observation, you will find yourself immersed in her art. With colour, vibrancy, subtle motion and details, her sketches and paintings are alive, figuratively and literally.

Rebekah Ziola takes an innovative approach to art which sets her apart; mostly sketching upside down and with an array of different materials to perfect her final pieces; always striving to achieve a higher level of technical ability. Rebekah has dedicated her life to sketching and painting and brings beauty to life by portraying it on the canvas/paper.
