My recent study of Australian birds is as much about their beauty as it is their personalities. I’m bewitched by their charming antics and observing them for any length of time it becomes abundantly clear that their lineage harkens back to an ancient past.
Strategic gestural markings to illustrate motion and high contrast evoke form and emotion. Intense detail in the eyes and face of the Forest Red Tailed Cockatoo progressively diminishes into working sketch charcoal / graphite pencil markings. With a crown of bristling black feathers, this edition clearly exudes confidence. This painting featured in my 2018 solo exhibitions "Natura Australis" and RBWH Ned Hanlon “Birds and Brumbies” Exhibition
