Artwork Description

Linden trees are healing, inspirational and abundant in nectar. Linden’s sweet-scented flowers are loved by bees and are medicinal. In my childhood in Poland it was a family tradition to collect Linden flowers (Lipa in Polish) for tea infusions, and drink them during cold winter months to strengthen our immune systems.

Linden trees have been inspirational for artists, writers and musicians, including a Polish poet Jan Kochanowski who wrote about Linden in 1584; in Australia Nick Cave’s song ‘Lime Tree Arbour’ led him to planting ‘Nick’s Lime Tree’ at the Victorian Royal Botanic Gardens.

This camera-less work was created by my experimental biochrome process, based on fusion of natural and photographic materials and subject to transformational power of organic processes.

You can read more about this story of Linden in the Mind of Plants publication, 2021.
