Artwork Description

This work from the Origin Series explores themes of displaced heritage and nostalgia.
A romanticised and sentimental perspective as evidenced by the traditional costume of the figure set amid a detail of Dutch Master, Van Huysen's flower painting.
The halcyon days of art history and the detached frame of reference of past identity converge - both have turned their backs on the present.

Artist Bio

Renata Waterfall is a graduate of Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, was a twice finalist in the Mosman Art Prize .
Renata is a masterful painter that portrays evocative, surreal and dreamlike scenes, that explore aspects of the human experience as it relates to nature, identity, redemption, and intelligent design. 'I enjoy using a symbolic narrative to invite meaning, and to ask questions about how we view the world and ourselves in conjunction with it. I endeavour to engage with the viewer using poeticism through a distilled semiotic lens, in order to create a meditative moment in time, through the observance of the symbolic imagery'.
Renata has had group and solo shows over a career spanning decades, and her work is in private collections, both here in Australia and over seas.
She is open to commissions based on the expressed themes of her practice.
