I was born and bred in Perth,Western Australia with my childhood spent growing up in regional areas. As a young child I would sit and draw constantly and always knew art was my inner passion. I can recall a printmaking workshop when I was just nine years old and how much I loved it, and then again at university doing a relief print project I still loved it. Fate works in mysterious ways - I spent many years away from drawing/painting/creating - suppressing my inner joys! I went away on a weekend to a beautiful part of South West WA and had an urge to sit and draw. My children had no idea that I was actually creative! How sad that they didn’t know such a large part of me. I came home and Ickes up a paintbrush for the first time in years. This is where fate stepped in.... I went on gumtree to purchase myself an easel (things were about to get serious!). I picked up the easel from a lovely old man who could no longer paint (so sad) and he handed me an extra bag of goodies. Upon getting home I went through the bag of old oil paint tubes and brushes, palette knives and there sat a single Lino carving tool. Wow- I loved Lino printing... maybe I should do one. And so my printmaking journey began... with prints now adorning many walls both known and unknown to me - nothing gives me greater joy than my artwork making its way to a new home. I now switch between printmaking and painting (with a bit of quilting in between). My subject matter varies from nudes to beaches to flowers to landmarks. My Lino works usually always have a “pop” of colour. I recently started experimenting with large scale works with some plates taking me more than 40 hours to carve.
I am completely influenced by the beauty that surrounds us each day. As for an artist influence I’m not really too sure I’m just paving my own way at the moment!
