Darcy Doyle Awards Finalist for 2023 and 2022 , Royal Queensland Art Society Member, and Gold Coast Art Workshop Teacher.
I have always loved and appreciated art since I was a child. Everything from drawing, and watercolour painting to admiring the incredible illustrations in children’s books at the school library.
I spent my high school years experimenting with art styles and dreamt of a career in art or photography but with a less than encouraging art teacher, I doubted my ability and went on to work in Childcare.
My love for art never really left me and I continued to draw and paint in my spare time. It wasn’t until I was given the opportunity to work and live on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays that I really started to take my passion for art more seriously.
When I wasn’t working in the Kids Club and Childcare Centre, I attended every art class available at the Hamilton Island Gallery and of course living on an island, I didn’t have to search very far for inspiration. I concentrated on watercolour painting and actually thought that would be the medium that I’d stay with but little did I know that a spark had been lite and this was just the beginning.
I returned home to the Gold Coast and remembered how much I enjoyed drawing with chalk pastels. I was able to achieve the beautiful layers and soft blending that fit perfectly for my interest in waves and seascapes.
I can safely say that my art is not placed within the boundaries of a single style or genre and even today I am still discovering. I am inspired by nature, whether it be seascapes, landscapes, or elements and patterns in nature to create something that is a little bit different with a modern outlook.
I am an explorer by nature and I let my curious personality lead me to new journeys in art. I adore the beautiful shades of blues, greens, and turquoise which you’ll notice feature predominantly in my work.
More recently I have discovered mixing flow mediums to acrylic paints which are easier to blend and provide much more freedom with its fluidity.
In complete contrast to that, I have been thoroughly enjoying abstract painting by using a variety of brushes and palette knives to apply texture and layers of colours to represent the subject matters such as, crashing waves, rocky cliffs and coral reefs and sandy shores. This gives a whole new wonderful dimension and feel for each painting.
In my spare time I enjoy visiting our stunning beaches or lush hinterland to relax and find inspiration, or spending time with my 2 adult children, family, and friends. I also frequently teach art workshops at the Royal Queensland Art Society, Broadbeach Gallery.
I believe my art provides a zest for life and the joy that I feel with experimenting with colours, designs, and patterns within nature. I hope that my art work gives people the same or similar happiness that they give me.
Thank you for reading my profile and showing interest in my art work.
