Outback Highway in Drought

This landscape emerged from the pour quite suddenly, so to greet it I added the highway, and with it a sense of movement and motion. To me this scene places us somewhere on the Barrier Hwy between Hermidale and Cobar...skies so blue and bright they're almost white, reaching up, up, up 'til your eyes squint in the sun. A little whirly wind in the distance every now and then. The motion of the car through the grey-black line of the road. Though it appears an empty landscape, the vastness only enriches it.⠀

Mark making, textured layering and gestural brushstrokes are founded in spiritual or emotional experience - themes that are brought to life through collaboration with the viewer as shared meaning is formed. And so, in a beautiful ‘dialogue’, the perspectives of the viewer colour the work as much as the hues themselves.
