Ballet is one of my fav things to watch. The dancers depict a story, wearing the mask of someone else by their costume, expression and movement - reality is left behind as they immerse themselves in the motion of dance, music and colour. Sadly, a lot of people tend to live their reality just like that - wearing a mask to meet expectations or to hide the real person within...going through the motions. This painting expresses my desire for honesty to be expressed in life with love. This is a depiction of being brave, standing up for yourself and being determined to enjoy life - one dancer has bravely left the mask behind in the hope that her example will help others. The broken colours I've used, like deconstructed hashtags, represent the emotions that are most often affected by the masks we wear - blue for communication, crimson for deep love and passion, and emerald green for creativity and new life. The gold chains represent hopes and dreams that only come together when we stop hiding behind our masks...how exciting that would be.
Abstract Expression. This work has been framed and is ready to hang. The measurements as framed are: Height = 102.8cm X Width = 82.8cm and Depth = 10.1cm. It is painted on quality linen in acrylics with impasto layers that have a shear aspect to them. Some colours, such as the emerald green, can lift when the light is upon them, allowing other colours to remain prominent like the blues. The painting has been sealed to prevent discolouring.
