Artwork Description

My mother is an artist and her design is the old Tiwi design. I was taught by Doreene, my mother in law, and now I paint in the modern Tiwi way. My mum was really good painter, she won that award in 1995, her name is Aileen Henry Kumarjino.

This is the first time I have painted like this. I wanted to add my mothers design into my artwork. This design is called Daughter to Mother.

Artist Bio

“I grew up in Humpty Doo. I went to School at Middle Point and Kormilda College. My mother is an artist and her design is the old Tiwi design. I was taught by Doreene, my mother in law, and now I paint in the modern Tiwi way. My mum was really good painter, she won that award in 1995, her name is Aileen Henry. My totem is water snake and red kangaroo (my grandmother). In 1991/92 I used to work with Tiwi tourists that’s where visitors used to come and buy my shells. I made a bark bag called Tunga (hunting bag), for those tourists.”
