Artwork Description

This ceramic piece is Raku fired with a matte glaze and has been sealed to hold water

Signed on the back.

‘What is between is both fragile and strong,
This is where the secrets and true potential are veiled,
Filled with curiosity for what is still unseen, with so much to discover in the space between’

The work in this exhibition is inspired by nature - from the macro to the micro; the skies and mountains tops to the effects of time seen in eroded rock surface; it has a way of seeping in and finds its way into the form, surface and colour of my work.

For me playing with clay is joyful, meditative, a connection to nature and to my inner world and memories. The excitement, vulnerability and variability of Raku firing fires my passion and this is where I collaborate with the flames and kiln goddess to create painterly impression on the surface of the form.

It is hand built with Raku clay and glaze and then fired in a Raku kiln to 1000 degrees. It is then placed in a reduction bin where the fire creates a reduced oxygen atmosphere and this provides the final colour palette on the piece.
