I am a professional painter living in Melbourne. I have been drawing and painting from as early as I can remember, at first I drew and painted to understand myself and the world, and helped me, now I hope I am helping Art.
I was trained as a classical / fine artist at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and have exhibited in Taiwan and Melbourne.
Regardless of formal training, from an early age I have always been drawn to the Abstract, and when I was living and making art in Taiwan I had an epiphany about Abstract art. I realized the majority of Abstract art is created with a representational approach, much like how a painter would paint a still life, landscape, portrait, etc, i.e the painters would be making deliberate choices and decisions in the creation of their "Abstract" artwork. While this "Abstract" work in only Abstract in its appearance and visual language and not at its Core. Therefore I discovered and developed a method to create what I like to call "True Abstract" paintings where the in the process I have been able to separate my mind from my brush. The result is a painting truly abstract at its core in which every person is able to make their own connection and experience with a piece. Some people see figures, animals, or objects in the colors, shapes, and positive space, others have feelings, and I love that anyone can have a connection with the work the way they choose.
From the seeds of the Truer Abstract body of work, came the Adventures series. Almost exactly opposite in ideation, the Adventures series while appearing Abstract in language are figurative landscapes, in which characters and interacting, dancing, combating, they are in an adventure.
It is a great joy to share my Art with you. Thank you for taking a look!!
