Richard McLaren has been a photographer, photojournalist, and now trainer in photography for over twenty years. His interest in photography started at the early age of five due to his father’s photographic interests. Richard has photographed for national magazines, local and state newspapers, commercial publications; he was the official photographer for the Brisbane and Melbourne writer’s festivals and supplied national and international publishing houses, working portraits of their current authors.
Over the past ten years, Richard has researched and put into practice the theory of Therapeutic Photography through courses he has developed for people with a disability, mental health issues, particularly current and ex-servicemen and women, and currently, migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Over 750 people have been trained by Richard during this time.
The photography being displayed here come from a collection of his personal files, photos that represent mood, emotion, beauty, and peace. He does not specialize in just one format as he believes there is beauty and a story in everything.
