Ririn Yaxley is a self-taught textile and mixed media artist, originally born in Indonesia and currently residing in the charming border town of Albury, nestled between New South Wales and Victoria. Ririn's artistic journey is deeply intertwined with her life as a boutique hotelier, alongside her husband, Kevin Yaxley, who shares her passion for design and hospitality. Together, they managed the exquisite Circa 1928 boutique hotel in Albury.
Ririn's artistic work primarily revolves around mixed media, with a particular focus on the felting process. She is committed to using recycled and sustainable materials whenever possible. For Ririn, felting provides her with the freedom to craft her art in a unique style, free from artistic boundaries. In the world of felting, there is no waste; even mistakes become opportunities for creative adaptation. Ririn finds solace and fulfillment in both the process and the results of her felting endeavors. While she often approaches her artwork spontaneously, her craftsmanship truly shines when creating wearable art, where precision and fit are paramount. As a furniture designer, she envisions incorporating felting into her designs, crafting functional and artistically infused furniture with sustainability at the forefront of her mission.
Ririn's art finds its home in the gallery of her boutique hotels and is also available for purchase online. She warmly welcomes commissions, allowing clients to own a piece of Ririn's artistic vision. Her talent graced the runway in a fashion show in Wodonga, Victoria, in 2021, followed by another in Albury, New South Wales, in 2022.
Currently, Ririn is holding her first solo exhibition at the prestigious Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), running from July 21st to October 15th, 2023. Her exhibition beautifully narrates her journey of assimilating into Australian culture through art.
