I am a Sydney based artist working as a Graphic Designer in the printing industry.
In 2016, I focused on creating my illustrations and opened an online store selling fine art prints and handmade stationery. I proceeded on to designing my own streetwear brand called Pivotal Dismay, where I would screen-print my graffiti-style hand-lettering onto t-shirts and other apparel.
I picked up my paintbrush again in 2022 after accepting commissions to paint pet portraits. Shortly after this, I immersed myself in abstract landscape painting. This allowed me to explore my connection to the natural world, giving me greater freedom to express myself and create artworks in my own personal style.
Experimentation is a key element in my artistic process where unpredictable and unexpected results add the element of surprise to my artworks. Working with a limited colour palette, I use acrylic paints but also like to apply charcoal and spray paint to achieve desired results. Keeping my water spray bottle handy, I create drips and splatters and incorporate non-traditional techniques to create texture in my paintings.
Using the weather as a metaphor for my emotions, I create moody and atmospheric landscapes that convey the power, mysteries and resilience of nature - which is why clouds are a common theme in my paintings, representing the turbulent and ever-changing nature of our inner states.
My inspiration for my creative pieces comes from vast open spaces and being in the natural world. Iβm fascinated by dark terrains, ominous clouds, stormy oceans, and barren lands. These elements make the landscape distinct and I enjoy translating them into my paintings to add personality and drama to my work.
As an artist I aim to portray raw emotions onto the canvas, conjure a sense of wonder, and inspire the viewer to see the hidden beauty that can be found in places of darkness.
