Artwork Description

The scene is from a place I regularly visited in the early 70's. Today there is much change and development. The location is known as the Wildside, the southside of a famous surfing break called Seal Point.
Metaphorically, the image might be representation of life's journey, with the path symbolizing the course of life, the stormy sky representing challenges, leading toward the ocean representing peace or resolution. The prominent rock, being a significant obstacle or milestone along that journey.
A walk down memory on a recent trip had one name for the title........Walk on the Wildside.

Artist Bio

Rob Meiring is a Perth based photographic artist who works mainly with canvas and acrylics. A seasoned waterman and big wave charger, Rob ranked amongst some of the top Mens ASP competitors during the late 70's.
With a critical eye cast towards his lifelong affection for the ocean, his passion for conceptual photographic works has developed into his current project;

Light. Lens. Art.

Manipulating perspective and the application of light, his works are multidisciplinary and diverse. Using the ritual of gaze and vision to create his images, he combines old and new concepts in creative post editing processes. Each image captures a unique atmosphere, resulting in a deeply personal subjective work that leaves viewers with a lasting impression.
Two years into his current project, an added influence of his surfing days is to create a series of prints in muted tone composites, layered with resin finishes on wood. He looks forward to where this direction will take him.
As he said in discussion, ‘The outcomes are an expression of freedom to transpose the fantasy of the visuals I experience'.
