I have done 2 self portraits in my time as an artist, once in high-school; a pop-art piece that inspired me to take on art as a hobby, which represents my teenage years (10-20) I decided that before I turned 30 I should do a second self portrait to represent me in my 20s, and then next decade I will do a 3rd.
This piece is about my feelings of depression, and the intrusive nature of self sabotaging or self harming thoughts. A feeling of having died, even when awake and very much alive. The unfinished nature of the spray and brick work is an expression of my ADD and anxiety, and the open eyes are an expression of struggle and tenacity in continuing life. The pose was photographed by a friend on a particularly hard day for myself, but was a wonderful opportunity to practice fore-shortening on the foot and extended leg.
