Hello and welcome to my page.
I am Robyn Boyd and unfortunately not related to the famous artistic Boyd family.
I am a realist painter and love painting in oils for the richness, depth and flow that I'm able to achieve from this medium. You'll see from my artwork that I enjoy still life, portraiture and seascapes, but do like going out of my comfort zone and am willing to give any subject a try. I'm always looking for opportunities to learn and grow my artistic pursuits.
My ambitions growing up were to study art and becoming an art teacher, but circumstances took me down the path of fashion which I studied and worked in for the majority of my working career. However, I never lost the love of art, but couldn't find the time to paint as I raised my children and owned and operated my own fashion retail store.
A few years prior to retirement, I made the decision to take my art mor seriously. I tried a variety of local art classes which didn't satisfy my want and need to learn and grow. About 10 years ago I discovered the Geelong Art Society where my journey began and my love of painting with oils. The Geelong Art Society has incredible tutors who are both successful artists and teachers, who pass on their deep knowledge of painting and have inspired me to grow and explore my work as an artist. Since my time at GAS my painting has improved and evolved, and it has become a great joy and passion to paint. I actually like what I see now. I do desire to be an impressionist painter but my temptation to pick up the small brushes and add all the fine detail just doesn't allow for this, it's something I can't resist.
I mainly paint on canvas, stretched or unstretched, but have experimented on wood panels, I find it a lovely result to incorporate the warmth and texture of the timber as part of a painting.
I'm a late starter in my art journey and am still discovering what I most like to use as my still life subjects, so far it's been quite eclectic, but time will tell. My portraitures have predominantly been of my beautiful family; 3 children and 6 grandchildren are all part of my personal collection.
