Ramen means "pulled noodles" and is a noodle soup dish originally imported from China which has become one of the most popular dishes in Japan. Ramen are cheap and available everywhere. Nearly every region in Japan has its own variation of ramen, typically categorized according to their soup base. In the 1980s, ramen became a Japanese cultural icon and was studied around the world from many perspectives.
I have made an abstracted but recognisable piece which will appear to Japanophiles, Anime and Ramen fans alike. The colours will suit most interiors.
As part of my exhibition of Japanese Icons, Old and New, this is the subset of Traditions - New. Work is all made from layers of paper including Japanese Washi paper cut in shapes to reveal the design.
