ROBYN ELLIOTT
“Painting is a wonderful way to express myself and my love of nature, especially the qualities of open spaces; how colour and light play with forms, density, and perspective; and the deeply spiritual power of the ever-changing landscape.”
I have explored a number of genres, but at the moment landscape is my chosen direction. I work from my own photographs – mostly in acrylics and with both palette knife and brush – and especially in wide reflective vistas and close dense bush scenes of sites around where I live in Melbourne’s east. I like to use attention to detail and composition to draw the viewer to gaze into and rove about the space, and as my style develops I am beginning to explore different techniques and mixed media, such as charcoal, to bring interest and beauty to my work.
I loved art at school, but did not pursue it seriously until my late 40’s. Beginning with CAE Courses, my peaked interest led to a Diploma in Visual Art (1999-2001) from Victoria University, Melbourne; a Semester course at Lorenzo de Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy in 2007; and the completion of a Degree in 2020. In the last 20 years I have participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, led a number workshops, and taught painting in Melbourne. As well as a love of nature I am also a keen life drawer, especially in charcoal and pastel, and enjoy figuratively abstract still life work. I am influenced by a wide variety of artists and movements, but particularly enjoy the Tonalists, and Figurative Abstraction.
I am open to commissions and would be happy to talk with you about what you would like. I hope you enjoy my paintings.
