Peonies

This painting presents a lush, intimate arrangement of pale pink and ivory blossoms, painted in a soft, expressive style. The flowers are layered closely together, filling nearly the entire composition and creating a feeling of abundance and fullness.

The central blooms are especially striking, with large, sweeping petals in shades of creamy white, blush, lavender, and soft rose. Deep magenta accents appear along the edges and folds of the petals, adding definition and drawing attention to their intricate forms. A few touches of warm yellow and green at the centers provide subtle contrast against the predominantly cool palette.

Dark green leaves and stems emerge between the flowers, giving structure to the composition while emphasizing the luminosity of the petals. The muted gray-green background is quiet and understated, allowing the blossoms to remain the focus.

The brushwork is soft yet deliberate, with visible strokes that give the petals a velvety, almost sculptural quality. Overall, the painting feels romantic, elegant, delicate, and quietly dramatic, like a close-up view of flowers at the height of their bloom.

Perth born and bred, Robyn grew up amongst an old fashioned rose garden, which created the setting for her future floral art and her love of nature. After gaining her secretarial credentials, Robyn worked as an Office Manager, gaining experience for establishing "Robs Art and Design" in later years. When her two children started school (1987), she also started school as a mature age student at Midland TAFE and Fremantle TAFE, gaining her Diploma in Art and Design after five years of part time study. During this time Rob worked as a landscape gardener to have a break from study and again be amongst the flowers. Strangely, while supplementing TAFE studies with a private teacher, Robs most disliked subject matter was flowers. Obviously, a love/hate relationship was just beginning.
Completing her Diploma enabled her to teach all mediums in private and commercial classes. Her experience as a teacher of art for 40 years has enabled her to pass on her knowledge to many students in a fun and rewarding manner.
While a member of the Alfred Cove Art Society, her floral painting was amongst a collection of work by the group to win the worldwide Dale Rowney art competition, judged in London. Membership to art associations include the Pastel Society of W.A., the West Australian society of Arts, Melville Arts, Realist Group and the Mandurah Plein Air Artists.
Robyn won the International Artist Magazine world art competition for floral art and hence wrote articles for this magazine and for The Australian Artist Magazine, which showcased her work in one of their publications.
Three Perth galleries, Linton and Kay, Gallery 360, Applecross Framing and Fine Art, included her in their stable of artists from 2001, which involved working full time exclusively for them, painting large realist/design floral paintings. Linton and Kay purchased a triptych 1 meter x 3 meters every week. (2001 - 2007.)
Her acrylic and oil paintings have been sold to Government Bodies, Corporate Establishments and commercial businesses. Prints of the floral paintings have been sold internationally and nationally.
Robyn has taught, demonstrated, judged, exhibited, completed hundreds of commissions and lectured during the last 40 years. The Art Gallery of Western Australia has employed her to run workshops at the gallery.
The large scale floral paintings are colorful, realistic and have a strong design element.
