Painted on a hot, balmy South Beach afternoon… I was living on San Marino Island, nestled in a beautiful home with a rooftop terrace where I’d often meditate beneath the Miami sun. Just off my balcony stood a towering coconut tree—so heavy with fruit, it looked surreal. I couldn’t possibly paint every coconut—it would’ve seemed fake! But I captured their essence, the abundance, the lush tropical rhythm of the moment.
That day, the pool called me in between brushstrokes, and the breeze off the water whispered stories only the sea knows. Chrome accents and a pearlised glaze shimmer across the canvas, just like the nightlife of Miami—vibrant by day, slightly blurred and edgy by night. I infused this piece with metallic highlights to reflect the sharp glamour and misunderstood soul of the city I adored.
Miami left a mark on me. The friendships, the heat, the passion, the art—it all lives inside this work. I named it Vodka, Lime & Coconuts, inspired by the drink of the moment, chilled and sophisticated, like the city itself.
This painting isn’t just a memory—it’s a heartbeat from a time I’ll always hold dear.
