The magnificent waratahs I gave my daughter for her end of year ballet concert. She'd requested Australian natives and was delighted with this bunch of colour drenched beauties.
Here, flowers in vibrant shades of red, pink, and cream, are captured nestling in a fabulous rippled turqouise vase, the dappled shadows from nearby tamarillo tree merging with the curly, dancing shadows from the waratahs themselves.
I adore painting waratahs - the striking shapes of the flowers and multitude of noodley petals, ideal for a looser painting approach. The expressive brushstrokes and rich, thick, colours reflecting the joy I felt that afternoon, one quietly spent observing and reflecting on the unique, radiating beauty of these quintessentially Australian blooms.
