I had been playing around a little with Midjourney and Dall-e for sometime now. And have been pondering about the place of art & artist in the time of AI. Most probably, the AI revolution will do to fine arts (a bit later, to literature & cinema as well), what the industrial revolution did to handicrafts and artisans. And it would be a hundred times more drastic. Artists have always been using tools like camera obscura, lucida etc since Davinci. The latest AI tools like DALL-E takes it to the next level by creating a complete painting just from an input sentence/image. This painting was created "in collaboration" with DALL-E. I gave couple of lines from one of my old poems as prompt and Dall-e created this image. The job of the 'artist' (who technically owns the copyright) was to transfer it onto a canvas. (And its only a matter of time -if not already - somebody build an automated hand which can physically 'Paint' the AI generated image onto a canvas. )
Is this art ? Who is the artist ?
DALL-E made me do it : An impressionist painting of an inquest being conducted by two ears turned into rabbits on the body of a man drowned in unreality.
