Artwork Description

I was asked to brighten a deep blue wall at the St Vincents North Brisbane Hospital as part of their ‘Outside In’ exhibition program. in 2019. This painting was one of four large paintings I painted.

I attended a Marine Art Course at Brisbane Institute of Art. Our teacher Jane James ia a wonderful teacher and talented artist. I continued to paint realistically for many years with her guidance.

Artist Bio

A nature lover since childhood Roslyn studied biology and worked as an environmental scientist for 20 years in Gladstone. Retiring to Brisbane in 2012 provided the opportunity to indulge in painting. Jane James taught Marine Art (acrylics) at the Brisbane Institute of Art (BIA), in a realistic style and she was a huge inspiration. Roslyn has since undertaken many courses at the BIA including watercolours and abstraction using acrylics. She had previously enjoying playing with various crafts including lead lighting, copper foiling, mosaics and lamp worked beads. The toughest and very rewarding challenge was battling abstract painting with the very patient Nameer Davies (B(A). She had previously enjoying playing with various crafts including lead lighting, copper foiling, mosaics and lamp worked beads.

As a young teenager viewing Blue Poles at the Sydney Opera House was an epiphany. The public furor generated by the purchase of Blue Poles by Golf Whitlam (Prime Minister of Australia) provided a powerful awakening for many in Australia.

Inspiration for her current acrylic paintings include Hilma af Klimt, Jasper Jones and Mark Rothko. She has admired Margaret Olley for decades and more recently discovered Margaret Preston and Grace Cossington Smith

Roslyn has exhibited widely and often in Brisbane and Gladstone and was hung in the Rotary Art Spectacular in 2019.
