Artwork Description

Raised on a farm in country Victoria, my uncle Frank had a rodeo event every year, it was the highlight marked on our calendar. The visual memory is still strong:- the rising heat and dust, people, akubra hats, working dogs and horses, cattle, barriers, food, laughter and loud speaker noise. To this day they are all imprinted in my memory.

Artist Bio

As a child I admired horses from a safe distance. My father was a horse trainer and always maintained caution as paramount. I explored my art practice throughout my childhood and studied art in Yr. 12 and beyond. I taught art for many years and through this time I continued my own practice which has accumulated in eight solo exhibitions, fourteen group exhibition and twenty six school and community exhibitions thus far. Primarily I am a portrait artist and it wasn't till my nephew who had the lifetime opportunity to ride Black Cavier, did it propel me back to my childhood. I painted Luke on Black Caviar and it was a cathartic experience. I loved the opportunity in painting this majestic animal with all its muscle structure, fluidity, strength and beauty. I have been painting horses since this time. I use acrylic, mixed medium, printmaking and archival fine liner.
