Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

A 2021 study by BirdLife Australia and Charles Darwin University concluded that there are 216 threatened birds in Australia compared to 195 in 2010. The subject of my work is one of these birds – the Regent Honeyeater - once roaming the east coast of Australia. With around 300 of these critically endangered birds in the wild, and using aerosol and acrylic on canvas, my work represents the bird as potentially crucified on a charred timber cross, surrounded by an uncertain grey environment with positive green glimpses offering the real opportunity to repopulate the species.

A 2m x 2m interpretation of inside the sun. 3 coloured acrylics in relief, painted on to 1,600 recycled and repurposed acetate sheet, adhered to a stretched canvas. An original artwork expressing the importance of recognising the value we all provide, and the worth of telling people just that. An original work to be hung in open area or workplace. An adventurous person amongst the fun of DublinOver the past 20 years or so, technology has paradoxically brought almost indescribable benefit but has also contributed to the acceleration of greed, itself contributing to vast and diverse inequality. My work asks the viewer to consider what future Metamorphoses might rediscover and recover spiritual losses and achieve a purposeful rebalance of humanity. Who will lead this communication of truth and reaffirmation of trust and grace, or will a hand in hand partnership be part of the solution?
