Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

This small statue was first seen in a restaurant in he Blue Mountains. Instead of a window I was sitting next to this statue set in a little grotto. I immediately feel a sense of calm emanating from the statue and wanted to recreate this feeling in my artwork. Most houses in India have a statue of Ganesha at their front door, he is the god who promotes wellbeing and goodness as well as luck and prosperity. It has a narrow floating oak frame in a natural colour which compliments the colours of the painting.

Layers of stencilled images have been printed in various intensities of teal green. From a pale base layer images of various countries, stylised bamboo and a temple are printed in a mid tone. In a darker teal images of a Cambodian temple dancer, a Chinese minority in traditional dress, an Inuit a gondolier and a Chinese temple form the top layerPeople dancing, people singing, woman skiing, woman painting, artist palette, violin and bow, treble clef, plane. All these images are displayed in a random pattern in shades of teal with a paler teal background of various intensity. Some tiny touches of other colours have been added to some images for emphasis. This painting depicts a gentle wave after it has edged up on the sand and is now sliding back. There are a few rocks on the shore and the water is sucked back between the two largest rocks on its return journey. There is another larger wave gently moving forward to take its turn upon the sand. This painting shows the view looking down from the footbridge crossing the upper reaches of the creek. The bright green of the flat North Harbour Reserve can be glimpsed through gumtrees. The tide is almost completely out and there are tendrils of water meandering through the sandbanks. It is a beautiful day and a very restful scene.
