I like to grab some paint and brushstroke, flick, throw, splatter, pour and/ or drip my emotions onto canvas (or another willing surface) until the emotions no longer feel like a an overwhelming whirlwind of doom, sadness, grief, heartbreak, sorrow or aggression... which is guess is why I don't have many bright colourful, happy-go-lucky kind of paintings (I quite literally just had this realisation while typing)
Because who needs to regulate happiness hey?!
