Artwork Description

Living in a House boat in a Marina was my inspiration. A fluid environment that is felt physically with the movement of the boat and spiritually with the movement of the water and the marine birds and animals.
My house boat is small and compact and floats in harmony with the water as does a waterlily. The colors (blue and yellow) are from the Native Australian Water Lily, (Nymphaea Violacea)
The vertical layering of pastel created the body of water and enough interest to play with. Wax pencils were used to intensify colour strategically and ink pencils used create transparent leaves and a watery feel. gel gloss mixed with ink gi es the petals a slightly enameled waterproof look.
the artwork took me approx 60 hrs , was challenging and fun to do.
The comments I receive from viewers is that it makes them feel calm and peaceful.
This reproduction has been sized to fit any A1 frame.

Artist Bio

The natural environment has always been a source of delight, wonder and inspiration. For me it's a spiritual connect I have when travelling around Australia, especially in Queensland and my home state Western Australia. The ancient and awesome grass trees of WA divine personalities that I must capture on film first and then attempt to draw later revealing the personality.
In Queensland it's the abundant diversity of colorful foliage, quirky trunks and branches, and massive ancient trees residing in the north.
More recently I have taken on a greater challenge in drawing one of my favorite animals, the reptile; specifically The Water Dragon.

I use archival pencils, wax, oil, and ink, textured medium, pan pastels, stylis for embossing and have recently introduced the use of airbrushing for the background. I'm always looking for new and interesting mediums and art tools to use. Archival paper.
My style is design. Design gives me the freedom to play with the subject using the pencils, medium, and scored paper to effect. I like to present clean lined artwork .

I am a self styled Artist with no training. However travelling for many years and joining local social community art groups has been a wonderful education in art. A validating and supportive experience. This is an ongoing activity for me where I can now share what I know.
