Artwork Description

This small, intimate painting portrays a man absorbed in reading his newspaper on a bench at Manly Beach. I was drawn to the quiet stillness of the scene, the figure’s striking red jacket set against the layered blues of sea and sky, grounding him in a moment of pause. The bench becomes not just a seat, but a place of reflection, routine, and connection to the everyday rhythms of life by the ocean. Through this work, I wanted to capture the beauty in ordinary gestures and the way simple acts, like reading, can harmonize with a landscape and create a sense of calm presence.
