Artwork Description

Story:
This piece is about slowing down. The figure sits quietly, surrounded by magnolias, creating a calm and grounded moment.

There’s a contrast between the softness of nature and the still, composed pose. The circle behind her head adds to that sense of pause and reflection.

It’s less about who she is, and more about the feeling of taking a breath.

Inspiration:
Inspired by how rare stillness has become, I wanted to create something that feels calm and steady—like stepping out of the noise.

Magnolias were chosen for their quiet strength and beauty. The mix of a simple, modern figure with a more classical composition keeps the piece both grounded and timeless.

How it lifts a space:
This work brings a calm, balanced feel to a room. The warm, earthy tones soften a space without overpowering it.

It works well in living areas, bedrooms, or quiet corners—anywhere you want a sense of ease and stillness.

Materials:
Original oil on canvas
Artist-grade oil paints
Professionally stretched and framed
Finished with protective varnish
90cm x 90cm (framed)

Built up in layers, with a balance of fine detail and soft blending for a painterly finish.

Artist Bio

Rudi de Beer is a Tasmanian artist whose oil paintings explore the quiet tension between stillness and emotion. Working within a refined blend of realism and dreamlike composition, he approaches portraiture as a form of thoughtful observation — using light, texture, and environment to suggest the unseen narratives that shape a person’s inner world.

Guided by a background in multimedia design, his process begins with mood boards of colour and imagery that evoke a specific emotional tone. Through thin, layered applications of oil and subtle glazing, he builds depth and atmosphere, allowing light to shift gently across the surface.

Rudi’s intention is to create art that resonates on a personal level — works that invite quiet connection rather than explanation. Each piece carries a sense of solitude and refinement, designed to enrich its space with emotional depth and understated sophistication.
