Vortex Lightbox is a hero piece from my recent solo exhibition "Dream Machines".
The work features a variety of delicate flower motifs and hypnotic patterns, encased in a glowing light box. The light box has been designed with a polished stainless steel frame, and features a dimmable and light temperature adjustable remote for the LED lights. The artwork has been carefully sandwiched between 6mm sheets of perspex, with a diffusion layer on the back side. The light box is powered by a 240v plug, and is easily hangable with mounting tabs on the back side.
This piece has been painted on a special batch of "washi" Dodgy Paper, made on their residency in Japan. Painted using Lousy ink, made from pigment printer cartridge waste. Oli Ruskidd is the co-founder of Lousy Ink.
Dream Machines is a voyage into a realm of mystical fluid forms, bending and dissolving around machines at the forefront. Each work reimagines the automobile as psychic presence, shifting between dreams and landscapes of vibrant colour. Referencing an era of Kyusha car design during the 1970s & ‘80s, this body of work invites viewers to be hypnotised by these Kaido racers as they drift through dynamic abstractions.
