Artwork Description

Solo Exhibition "Twin Peaks" The Orangery Gallery 2025

Twin Peaks is posthumous homage to the cinematic work of the late David Lynch, where reality and the surreal coalesce in lynchian dream-like imagery.
Lyncian: Characteristic, reminiscent, or imitative of the films or television work of David Lynch. Lynch is noted for juxtaposing surreal or sinister elements with mundane, everyday environments, and for using compelling visual images to emphasize a dreamlike quality of mystery or menace.

Artist Bio

Ryan Ahern is an Australian painter whose launch and debut exhibition was held at the celebrated Orangery Gallery under gallerist, concert pianist, conductor and former director of the West Australia Symphony Orchestra, Mark Coughlan. He has quickly become a highly collected artist in Western Australia and has exhibited alongside notable artists such as John Cullinane and Michael Doherty. His work is primarily abstract-figurative and is marked by a dark, nostalgic and a subdued realism, reminiscent of 20th century Post-Impressionism.

Ryan is currently a life drawing instructor and former Artist-in-Residence at the Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC) and teaches art at various educational institutions. His work can be found in a variety of private collections and in public exhibitions in Australia and overseas. Ryan's work has been collected by notable figures, including board members of PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts) and The Weld Club. He is predominantly represented by The Orangery Gallery, Juniper Galleries, Blush Retail Gallery and Kamile Gallery.

He was born in Perth Australia and for the later part of his life has lived abroad, from far-eastern Russia, to Borneo, to the Middle East. He often works from his Perth studio in Australia in the summer months and resides in Europe during the winter season.
