Artist Bio

Biography
S. Pullman – Artist Profile

I studied art for ten years with a wildlife master. From 1986, I focused on drawing animals and birds in their natural environment, and later shifted to watercolour and oil. My subject matter and technique changed over time and now leans towards broader studies and forms, and different modes of painting particularly mark making, brushwork and texture.

My floral studies capture a stage of beauty and perfection before they wither and decay. They are marked with colour, and are blurred and softened to emphasis light and shadow, and to give definition to different shapes and surfaces. These works contain the correctness of floral composition but are enhanced with subtle hues and mark making achieved through build up and layering and other times just softening and removing paint. It is a fine line between adding and subtracting colours.

For me, painting adds balance to my life. When I am at my easel nothing else matters and I find this solitary activity to be both fulfilling and challenging. And… if all it goes well, the final stroke bring happiness and achievement.
