Sabina, American born, now lives and creates here on the Mornington Peninsula of Victoria, Australia, as a full time artist. Being an only child to European Immigrants, Sabina's zest for life, adventure, and being one’s self, can be experienced through her art.
"My Mother always encouraged me to be my own person; I share this with you through my art."
Sabina's works are truly an eclectic array of styles and mediums, where she shares her passion for texture, colours, and typography.
Self taught, Sabina has nurtured her independence and artistic freedom and creates spontaneously from within: expressing a feeling, a memory or an impression. Not restricted by uniform techniques, and free to express herself fully, results in unique pieces that arouse and captivates the viewer. It is this free spirit and passion that is embodied in each piece of work, across the array of mediums Sabina works with.
Sabina’s 'coastal abstract' paintings are inspired by the coastal lifestyle which Sabina experiences living on the Mornington Peninsula of Victoria, Australia. With camera in hand, Sabina's photographic passion of capturing the raw beauty Mother Nature creates over time, rusted metals, peeling paint, anything weathered, all come together once back in the studio, creating a style which brings the viewer an adventure in texture, hints of mixed media, a horizon made with genuine music sheets, typography, and numbers, resulting in pieces that arouse and captivate the viewer.
As with all Sabina’s work, inspiration is key, the palette of hues across her artworks come from her surroundings and the day’s events in which she is creating in. From a walk along the beach, flowers in her garden, to a person’s shirt or a car passing by. The hidden gems of texture are inspired by the netting on a pier, or off the side of a boat which Sabina comes across on her many journeys along the peninsula's coast line. You may ask why the numbers, the numbers you see in sequence are inspired by Sabina's vast manufacturing background, combined with a selection of random numbers Sabina comes across, on a beach box, a boat out on the water, to anything and everything along her day. The music sheets bring Sabina back to her childhood with her Mother, who loved playing the piano, to what we all love most about the beach "the beautiful sound of the waves", life is Sabina’s inspiration.
Just like her more colorful ‘coastal abstract’ paintings, Sabina’s coastal 'neutral’ abstract paintings are expressions of her love for the beach, through textures and shades of neutral. These works are also created using acrylic paint, medium, and occasionally hints of mixed media and music sheets, creating works of energy, spontaneity, and emotion.
This free spirit style is also embodied in Sabina’s one of a kind figurative pastel drawings. Often mistaken for being coloured paper, airbrushed or digital prints, these works are in fact done all by hand. Starting with a quality blank white sheet, Sabina works each pigment into the paper creating an adventure in colour and energy. The numbers which you will find throughout Sabina's figurative works are based on Sabina’s mood, the energy of the model, and overall feel of the day. As well as numbers, Sabina also enjoys using letters and swirls to represent the energy of life we generate from within, even when standing still. As with all Sabina’s work, inspiration is key, the palette of hues across her figurative works may come from Sabina’s drive along the esplanade to life drawing, to a person’s shirt or a prop the model brought in.
Sabina’s life drawings never have a face, so she decided to focus on just that in her own way through a series of abstract portraitures. Here Sabina shares with you a style in simplicity which speaks volumes. Stunning bold rich colour, with a minimalism that ignites these figurative works to have a life of their own.
"I feel art is a form of expression for not only the artist, but the collector as well. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy the adventure of creating it"
