Artwork Description

This is an artwork which has been produced to be part of a very personal book for a lady who is gravely ill. The book contains the interpretations of several artists of her very own wildlife photos. I have started to explore the use of gold leaf in my work. I am inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt.

The feathers of an Australorp Chicken are a beautiful deep colour. They reflect the light and shimmer with turquoise and blue tones in the curves of the plumage. The red of the face stands out against the feathers. The background is painted a soft yellow to enhance the purple tones on the bird. This cockatoo is stretching his wings out against a deep blue Australian summer sky. The bird by contrast to the strong colour of the background has much more delicate colouring including soft lilac and yellow. The black of the beak and the eye stand out strongly against the soft plumage. He's a cheeky character who would brighten any room.
