Meet Carlito. A beautiful grey horse with specks of brown and a silvery-golden mane. Horses are my favourite animal. Full of grace, they exude charm and intelligence. I had always wanted to photograph horses to try and capture their spirit in action and in solitude. And when a good friend of mine recently acquired one, I jumped at the opportunity to be introduced to it.
Even animals reflect. There were fleeting moments but I managed to catch Carlito’s looks unaware. I caught him looking down at the ground, lost in thought. Deep in reflection, contemplating his existence, perhaps. It was amazing witnessing the depth of thought of a beautiful animal. It also made me realise how we just don’t reflect enough. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of our working lives, how often do we take time out to reflect on our blessings, the ways of the world or the little miracles around us. We mostly get caught up and rarely find the time for ourselves let alone a reflective moment. Every person we meet has something to teach us or helps us reach a new realisation. But even our encounters with intelligent creatures have that amazing ability to help us see things differently.
