Pete was painted during the savage bush fires that burned across our country earlier in the year. I was enjoying breakfast on our (very urban!) rooftop terrace when I heard Kookaburra’s singing. Just two doors down there was three kookaburras flying from branch to branch, laughing away. My heart lifted, what a treat it was to see!... but then it broke. What were these beautiful creatures doing in urban Melbourne? The family must have fled the fires.
The paint application is chunky as it was mostly applied with my fingers. There is metallic gold paint in the background which the light picks up at different angles, representing flames. There is also metallic silver and gold on Pete himself.
This painting represents the resilience of our country, environment and our community who all band together to offer support to those in need.
Pete was painted with acrylics on heavy weight cotton rag paper, he will require framing.
