Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

This is a depiction of a woman engaging in meditation, eyes closed, focusing on her breathing and seeking to calm her self. I'll begin the description of this artwork by saying I am not a spiritual person, I dont prescribe to the idea of the "third eye" and getting in touch with ones "aura" etc...For me meditation has a more scientific/psychological explanation and relevance and is something i would suggest all people should engage in. If you struggle with anxiety or trauma especially it is crucial for you to try it, any psychologist or psychiatrist will tell you that any form of issue you find difficult to reconcile, trauma, or abuse (this can be tiny or unspeakably large) if it remains unresolved can lead to significant impacts on you later in life. We see this all the time in children, trauma accompanied by a lack of ability to make sense of it or heal it leads to troubles later in life, the abuse cycle is a common example of this. For me to meditate means to sit and think about ones self, the issues that keep you up at night, ones that you dont understand, ones that you cant make sense of or feel you handled poorly. To sit with that feeling, no matter how uncomfortable is beneficial to do, it will allow you to think more clearly in times of confrontation, seek flaws and strengths in yourself, find resolution and move past old grievances. Im not saying meditation is a magical cure for bad experiences (that wouldnt make sense scientifically), rather for some issues it can bring clarity and a new method of moving forward or the ability to acknowledge that you need to seek help from another (friend or professional depending on its severity). Give it a try if you are anxious, angry or scared, it may be unfomfortable, but thats the point. Its all well and good to remain in a safe space and avoid acknowledging the problem...but ask yourself, if there was a fire in your kitchen, would you simply move to another room where there is no smoke and lock the door? is that resolution? perhaps the flames will extinguish themselves yes, or your whole house burns down.

The issue may consume you if you do not approach it appropriately.
