This sculpture frustrates me, I find the texture beautiful but in a way it shouldn't exist. This sculpture has been created from hundreds of rubber toys, some were donated but the bulk of them were lost and forgotten by children or thrown away, found on beaches, in water ways and in forests...they weren't properly disposed of, these things are still out there by the millions and that's not the type of relic I would like to leave behind. Rather than allow them to simply end up in our water ways and oceans, our landfill or end up in the stomach of an animal I have chosen to stop them from becoming waste and repurpose them into this sculpture.
Im not pointing fingers at anybody rather im saying we need to think about the start an end of the things we purchase and inevitably throw away. Recycle them, dispose of them correctly or repurpose them like I have but don't simply chuck them out and turn a blind eye or eventually there will be more trash under your feet than solid ground.
The kawaii (meaning cute or adorable in japanese) death brigade is a reference to the way these little rubber collectibles seem to have an inevitable conclusion, since their creation they have slowly been marching their way from our homes into nature, polluting our world.
Nobody is perfect, just don't be stupid about it. Try and be more mindful of the way you use things and discard them, i'm trying to work on that myself.
As cute as these little things are they're still harmful, don't be fooled by that.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
I find that my art enables me to express elements of my world that can't necessarily be seen by the naked eye, its an attempt at conveying something a bit intangible. Abstraction is the primary way I communicate my ideas and experiences in art.
The naive and somewhat primitive lines, shapes, colours and textures I use are my attempt at capturing the atmosphere, personality or feeling of a place or person I have encountered in my life, realism or a photograph in my opinion doesn't always capture these elements of the world.
I feel that my art brings these to the surface...it shows the soul of something, somewhere, or someone. Perhaps you will see someone you know within my strange works, maybe even yourself.
