Artwork Description

As ive continued to unearth old paintings of my younger years as an artist I am transported to the times I created them. Its interesting that some of the influences in my art have still stayed true through the years even though my style has changed. Like my current works this one is clearly influenced by music, however this one is actually based on my father. An exceedingly talented guitarist who is one of the reasons music is at the core of my art practice. I wanted to capture the essence of him as a musician, I believe the colours are a reflection of this too, even the strings used are from his acoustic Fender. While my style and subject matter has changed over the years its nice to revisit the roots of my art, perhaps in seeing this piece my current art style will be influenced by it again. In a way it represents strings linked to my past, hence the title Nostalgia Strings.

I created this artwork in 2008 at university, I never had the confidence to share it with others until now.
Hopefully it inspires another artist or musician as it has me.

Artist Bio

I find that my art enables me to express elements of my world that can't necessarily be seen by the naked eye, its an attempt at conveying something a bit intangible. Abstraction is the primary way I communicate my ideas and experiences in art.
The naive and somewhat primitive lines, shapes, colours and textures I use are my attempt at capturing the atmosphere, personality or feeling of a place or person I have encountered in my life, realism or a photograph in my opinion doesn't always capture these elements of the world.
I feel that my art brings these to the surface...it shows the soul of something, somewhere, or someone. Perhaps you will see someone you know within my strange works, maybe even yourself.
