Path of the Grey Nomads (The Otherland. 2)

This landscape is an extension on my first "otherland" artwork. I sought inspiration from landscapes I had been but I also asked for stories from others about where they had been. This is the result of that process.

I spoke to my parents, they are as the saying goes 'Grey Nomads', they told me stories and showed me photos of all the places they had been throughout Australia, the stories painted beautiful mental pictures as much as the photos capture glimpses of them in reality. This artwork is a mental amalgamation of their stories, I've even thrown them in to this work, travelling in their Pajero and trailer through a new place with my interpretation of their travel stories.

I think I need to do a road trip.

I find that my art enables me to express elements of my world that can't necessarily be seen by the naked eye, its an attempt at conveying something a bit intangible. Abstraction is the primary way I communicate my ideas and experiences in art.
The naive and somewhat primitive lines, shapes, colours and textures I use are my attempt at capturing the atmosphere, personality or feeling of a place or person I have encountered in my life, realism or a photograph in my opinion doesn't always capture these elements of the world.
I feel that my art brings these to the surface...it shows the soul of something, somewhere, or someone. Perhaps you will see someone you know within my strange works, maybe even yourself.
