Artwork Description

Muted tones.
Framed in wood
Cut and stitched- Sadik stitch technique
3d sculpture.. Sadik stitch, is an original technique. Born from boundless experiments, trials, and errors, a “no fear” approach to art and a persistent drive to Re- invent the wheel. I cut, hole-punched, burnt and pushed my art to its breaking point, in doing so I discovered that the multitude of repainted errors, layered over the years had changed the fabrication of the canvas, giving it a structural integrity, strong enough to mold, shape and withstand pressure. instinctively or unknowingly.

I used the skills learnt from my ADV DIP in Fashion and Textiles, to stitch the canvas back toghter, weaving cord in and out of holes, using tension and tacking to build the sculpture, replicating similarities to the construct of a “corset”, manipulating a flat object into an organic 3dimensonal form, literally bursting from the restraint of its frame, knowing that only by pushing my mistakes was I able to create something so beautiful and unique
