Artwork Description

I pass by these hills almost every day. Usually dotted with horses but what draws me the most is the big, calm, easy, open space. I actually look forward to driving past catching a glimpse because they kind of say "good morning here we are!" and to me, this is what I love about life and even though they are just huge grassy lumps in the landscape, I love them. They change every day with the seasons and the weather and if you are a regular surfer down here you probably know them too.
There are so many versions of this scene I could paint. To me this one expresses the ruggedness, but in a serene and more calming way.

Acrylic on stretched canvas ( I have chosen a thinner 2cm canvas for this one rather than a boxy style because I think it would look better being more streamlined with the wall )
Edges are finished in white
Ready to hand with D hooks and wire

Artist Bio

It's been almost 15 years since I picked up a paintbrush! Having sold over 100 artworks worldwide, including commissions in the early 2000s, I'm truly eager and excited to start again.

Born to French restauranteur parents, my family originate from the South of France where I was lucky enough to live and experience when I was younger. this also is a major influence for me because life in France is filled with beauty, style, art and culture like no other in my opinion.

Ever since I can remember, I loved to draw & paint. Waking up early in the morning full of ideas and bringing them to life on the kitchen table was my happy place. Our home was filled with paintings created by my mother, and she was such an inspiration. It seems I have also passed this on to my youngest who has the same love of art.

Art truly fascinates me. From the churches & castles in France, to Gaudi & Dali in Spain to Warhol & Lichtenstein in the US but my favorite works of art are John Brack's Collins Street, Van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait & the images of Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. These literally haunt me, but in a good way. I also admire artists Margaret Preston, Magritte, Friedrich, Escher, Geoffrey Smart & David Hockney. A mixed bag of truly great artists but such inspiration and motivation to me & this probably reflects in my own art. I tend to differ in subject, style & technique depending on the day & maybe this is because I don't get spend all my time day after day constantly painting. but this is what excites me. The whole concept of art to me is that it's an expression & its spontaneous. I get an idea in my head & that's where it begins and that experimentation & creativity is what drives me....
I have always lived by the Sea since I was born , even when I lived in France. I Have a horticultural background & have studied Herbal Medicine and worked as a visual Merchandiser & Photographer & in Fashion & now hoping to live out my years following my love of Art
