Are you naturally drawn to vibrant colours and florals? I am. This is how I feel on the inside when I'm at my best. This is at the centre of the art I create.
I believe life is better when you surround yourself with colour, flowers and sentimental treasures.
I'm social when it counts but ultimately I'm a massive introvert. Ha! Painting has become a huge part of how I connect with myself and the outside world.
I love to explore the vibrancy and energy in the world around me. The essence of my work focuses on feminine energy in promotion of self love and inner peace. Which is not only experienced by myself as the artist but also by the art collectors that feel a connection with my work.
My intention for each piece of art is to create a feeling of uplifting gratitude and empowerment through floral colour, and a sense of connection and freedom channelled through living things.
I hope to create a balance between delicate details and playful, bold, saturated colour and texture. I work from a combination of photographic reference and imagination.
I paint predominately with acrylic paint. I like it to be reasonably fluid and have low viscosity. I prefer to paint on smooth surfaces, using acrylic paper or wooden artist panels. I love playing with freehand florals, but for more complex art, I like to sketch out general ideas and composition before getting started. I also like to experiment with mixed media compositions, including fabric and paper collage, metallic paints, embroidery and soft pastels.
Whilst my style remains consistent, my art has taken on many shifts over time. It has taken me a long time to accept that it is the exploration and discovery that fuels my art practice. Settling for one way of looking at the world through my art is an impossible task for me.
I am currently in pursuit of a perfect balance (for me) between realism and play in my work to infuse soul and create a richness and depth of emotion and feeling.
Take care, Sam x|
