Artwork Description

Native to South Africa, the Strelitzia reginae commonly known as the Bird of Paradise is hardy, easy to grow and architecturally dramatic with some of the most stunning and bizarre flowers you will ever see. Instantly recognisable bird's head–like flowers are carried on long, leafless stems. The plumes are vibrant orange and electric blue–violet. Appear in April to November, but can spot-flower randomly.
The bird of paradise represents faithfulness, love, and thoughtfulness.

Artist Bio

With paint running through her veins, Goulburn-based artist, author, and pattern designer Sami Sparrow was born with a crayon in her hand and the imagination to use it in a million ways.
Sami’s artwork captures her explorations of the natural world and its botanical forms. Using techniques that draw influence from street and tattoo art, along with printmaking and minimalist abstraction, Sami brings life to each creation through her use of bold and vivid colours.
Floral compositions, detailed line work, and distorted shapes are recurring themes. Sami’s minimalist observation of nature offers a sense of both simplicity and refinement.
With a degree in Fine Arts and Visual Arts, Sami developed her eye for creating detailed line drawing with her unique street culture style. Since this time Sami has authored three internationally published colouring books through HarperCollins publisher, had her work licensed to feature on products with multiple companies and has also been showcased in numerous art exhibitions including her first solo show in 2019.
