Artwork Description

Pounding Waves, Seven Mile Beach

The approach to this impressive beach is along Beach Road through the National Park south of Nowra, NSW. Its a place famous for birdwatching and overhead, a Sea Eagle flew onto an untidy nest perched high up on a telegraph pole. When we finally arrived it was late afternoon and dark clouds were forming off the coast. The waves were breaking onto the rocks at the Northern end of the long sandy beach. I found it quite mesmerising to sit and watch. This painting is about the feeling of the sea. It captures the movement of the sea from beyond the breakers through the rocks and onto the beach.

An energetic expressive painting which captures the feeling and mood of the sea. A loose painting style and attention to detail combine In this evocative piece.

A cool seascape în tones of white and dark grey,. Teal and ochre tones add highlight and interest to the mood.

Artist Bio

‘My paintings are inspired by the fragility and the beauty of nature, but also its power.’

Sandra Blackburne was born in Brisbane. She trained as an illustrator and graphic designer, graduating from the Queensland College of Art, before undertaking a career in advertising and graphic communication. She studied painting at The National Art School in Sydney. In 2010 she graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours on The Language of Art in the work of Patrick White
Sandra’s work explores the textures and layers of the Australian landscape. “I have always been drawn to the natural world both micro and macro images. In Australia there is a raw energy coupled with the intense light. My work has a sense of this. I’m interested in representing the effects of light and the beauty of the landscape which survives in spite of the harshness of our country. Thus the paintings focus on the power of nature to reassert itself.”
