Kings Eyes

This acrylic painting of a lion’s head is a personal exploration of strength, presence, and vulnerability through the lens of nature. The lion, often seen as a symbol of courage and majesty, became a powerful subject for me to connect with on both an emotional and artistic level.

As I worked through the piece, I found myself focused on the details—the texture of the mane, the intensity in the eyes, and the subtle shifts in tone and shadow across the face. Acrylic as a medium allowed me to build up layers gradually, capturing both the depth and warmth of the lion’s expression. The process was both challenging and meditative; I spent long moments immersed in each stroke, letting the work take shape intuitively.

More than a representation of an animal, this painting reflects my love for detail, nature, and expression. The lion’s gaze holds a quiet strength, and through it, I wanted to convey not only the animal’s power, but also a sense of calm and watchfulness.

Working on this piece reminded me of why I turn to art: for grounding, for expression, and for connection—to myself, to others, and to the world around me.

I am an Adelaide-based artist and educator on a lifelong journey through the world of art. With a Bachelor in Art and Design, I have explored a wide range of techniques, academic drawing foundations, and various mediums, alongside studies in art history and elective extensions.

My creative roots lie in drawing—it's the fundamental core of everything I do. Over the years, I have been drawn to the intricate beauty of animals and nature, and my work reflects a deep appreciation for both. I find solace and therapy in the act of drawing, and I cherish the sense of presence it brings me when immersed in my work.

I began my career as a full-time teacher, where I found great joy in sharing my knowledge and connecting with others to help nurture their artistic growth. Today, while raising my four children, I dedicate time when I can to my art practice, which continues to evolve and ground me.

Detail is at the heart of my work—I’ve always been passionate about bringing life to my drawings and paintings through thoughtful precision and careful attention. My preferred mediums include acrylics, watercolour, coloured pencil, and charcoal, all of which allow me to express the beauty I hope to transfer to the viewer.
